A Veil’s Tale

Symbol of purity, a  bridal veil is the ultimate romantic accessory, casting light on your face and creating an ethereal glow. From flirty and flyaway to cathedral –length grand, this is the one piece of fabric that sends an unmistakable message: Here comes the bride!

Shoulder Length: This short shoulder-brushing veil is a fun, informal option, light and easy to wear. It is comfortable enough to keep on throughout the reception and gives the illusion of long hair, as well as a charming halo effect. This is the perfect length for a garden ceremony beach nuptial, or a destination wedding. Best to wear with modern dresses that have a doll top of femininity. Alternatively, if you are marrying in a long slinky gown, a short veil is delivering bridal impact with a whisper.

Elbow Length: The Elbow length veil is wearable with majority of gowns. It can extend from just above the elbows as far as the fingertips. Consider it if you are planning an ultra informal wedding like in a chapel, a hotel ballroom, a restaurant or a rooftop. Best to wear with almost any type of wedding dress; an A-line sheath, Chemise, moderate size ball gown

Waterfall: This is a glamorous length of fabric that is cut like a cape to hang in gentle folds; shorter in the front and extending to the floor in back. A special piece like this demands a special setting be it in a modern or historic. Although a veil like this can be worn throughout the reception, most women would choose to remove it for dancing. Best to wear with a wedding gown that is long and narrow. This is an excellent option for a bride marrying in figure- hugging dresses that may seem a little racy for the ceremony, the soft folds of the veil provides sheer camouflage. Shoulders and arms should be fairly bare to allow the fabric to flow correctly. A waterfall veil can work equally well with a simple unadorned slip dress.

Cathedral: Making the biggest statement of all, this 3 and a half-meter long veil calls for an ultra-formal setting church wedding, a very long aisle or sweeping staircase accompanied with a troop of bridesmaids. Best to wear with the most elaborate ball gown you can find, remember that the dress train should be shorter than the veil length. Since a cathedral veil acts as a sheer shell for your dress, choosing one in a matching fabric is idea. For a twist you could try a cathedral veil with a formal mermaid gown, the contrast could be extremely stylish.

How to Wear A Hat?

The mother of the bride and groom would normally wear distinctive hats. If you like to mark out their statues in this way, why not suggest a feathered disc or butterfly comb.

As a Bride, consider a sweeping picture hat or chic cocktail hat instead of a veil. Simple flower or feather pieces could enhance a simple dress or soften a traditional look.

With a wide brim, make sure the hat fits precisely and won’t slip down onto your eyebrows. If you have a low forehead, you may not be able to see out from under your hat.

Even with a simple decorated comb, practise with your hairdresser so he knows exactly how many pins will be needed to hold it on your wedding day.

Anne Barge Bridal

Luxury bridal designer Anne Barge is known for her classic and timeless silhouettes. We like to share with you the story behind her success and inspirations in her own words.

My mother was an organ pianist and started taking me with her to ceremonies when I was barely three years old. I have one vivid memory of a wedding where the entire church was filled with gardenias. Watching the bride come down the aisle to the wedding march, smelling the sweet floral air, the whole experience was like a fairytale. It was then that I began to focus on my lifelong dream.

When I graduated from college, I worked as Jim Hjelm’s assistant at Priscilla of Boston. He is one of my oldest and dearest friends. As a retailer, I was one of Amsale’s first customers and we have stayed close family friends ever since. Beyond being great people, I think the two are both fabulous designers who have made enormous contributions to our industry.

The trend in bridal has definitely gone as low and as bare as it can in recent years. I predict the pendulum will swing back and designers will start to explore more conservative styles. My aesthetic will always be one of refinement; we interpret trends in a way that upholds our timeless and classic style.

Short and Sweet

You don’t have to go to great lengths to find a fantastic wedding dress. Although short style dresses tend to stray from the traditional princess ball gowns, many brides prefer to walk along the aisle with grace, yet carefree and without having to worry about being weighed down by lots of fabric.

Short wedding dresses can also be the best option for a beach or an outdoor wedding reception. It allows you to keep the tradition of wearing white yet giving you more freedom to move.

Most short wedding gowns come in lengths varying between mid thighs, above the knee and ‘midi and tea’ length. With a wide choice of fabrics and styles to choose from you can look chic and dazzling on your wedding day.

Here Comes the Flowers Girls!

Many brides are more inclined to choose older bridesmaids rather than flower girls, which often means they miss out on a childlike charm. Here is some advice on how to help your little flower girls bloom at your wedding.

Comfort is the Key: Big might be beautiful but try to keep the garland on her head and the posy in her hand

Petal Power: Some flowers are more prone to bruising under the touch of small fingers so make sure you choose closed flowers like roses and ponies that are more likely to withstand the pressure.

Robust is a Must: you have to come to terms with the fact that your flowers may end up being thrown on the ground and possibly trampled on so don’t invest a lot of money on the flowers that the little ones will carry.

The Dream Factor: Even if your wedding style is practically perfect and polished in every way, you need to allow a little bit of freedom to your flower girls to play their special role

The Latest Bridal Shoes Trends

For decades shoes have been of a great importance to complete the bridal look but during the last couple of years shoes have taken a different twist and maybe the person to blame for this is Carrie Bradshaw played by Sara Jessica Parker from the “Sex And The City” movie when she bravely chose to wear a pair of blue shoes on her wedding day.

Recently an interesting idea that has been embraced by many brides all over the world is to dye the shoes in the same colour as the bridesmaids’ dresses. Options are endless, but one thing is clear – this is “the hottest trend of the bridal fashion.

Another great tendency gaining speed is the bling shoes. Crystals and rhinestones are everywhere this season and bridal shoes are no exception. A styling combination of a few big rocks on pumps or a completely crystal covered peep- toes; this addition to the bridal gown brings out the glamour of your look when combined well with the dress and the rest of the accessories.

For the brides that are not comfortable wearing high heels or don’t want to be taller than their grooms, designers and manufacturers have added a great Choice of flat bridal shoes to their collection, beautiful and comfortable, these options are perfect for outdoor and beach weddings. And last but not least, being every day the choice of more and more brides we have the vintage bridal shoes. Typical vintage style shoes are made with satin and can include a peep toe or a sling back and embellishments.

En conclusión, los zapatos nupciales son una manera muy especial de mostrar la personalidad y el estilo personal de la novia y no hay límites para complementar el vestido de una manera o otra.

Which Bridal Gown Works Best For You?

Look taller and slimmer: A floor length trumpet gown is the best choice for petite brides; the horizontal lines have a ” telescope effect ” that appears to lengthen the body.

Define your waist: Full skirts with sash nips in the waist gives the illusion of curves at the lower half of the body.

Flaunting your shoulders: Broad shoulders look proportional when balanced by the weight of a dramatic skirt.

Balance your shape: A-line gowns makes a heavy bottom look smaller while the corseted bodice instantly slims the waist

Enhance your bust: Folds in the bodice add to the shape lines and draw the eye upward.

Minimising your bust: Tank dresses with wide straps are ideal for full busted women.
