“I have a responsibility to the woman of today – to make her feel confident, modern and above all else beautiful.” ‐ Carolina Herrera
Establishing a globally recognized style aesthetic, Carolina Herrera has resided at the helm of her eponymous label for over three decades. Proving with each new season that effortless elegance paired with modern refinement is always relevant and embraced. With the encouragement and endorsement of legendary Vogue editor Diana Vreeland, Carolina Herrera presented her first collection of women’s ready‐to‐wear at New York’s Metropolitan Club in 1981. The collection was an immediate success with luxury retailers and fashion press; and from there, her fashion house was born with the Carolina Herrera New York label.
Opening her New York‐based atelier shortly after the inaugural show and cultivating a team trained in haute couture craftsmanship, Carolina Herrera aligned her name synonymously with the city and all things luxury. With wedding gowns often included in her ready‐to‐wear runway shows, Carolina Herrera introduced her bridal collection in 1987. From the beginning, the bridal collection is designed with the same style vocabulary innate in the ready‐to‐wear. Carolina Herrera has become the destination for brides in search of femininity, a touch of romance and exceptional craftsmanship known to the atelier. Since the collection’s inception, Carolina Herrera has outfitted renowned brides such as Caroline Kennedy, Evan Rachel Wood, Amy Smart and Kristen Stewart’s character Bella Swan in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn”. Finding resonance on the runway, down the aisle and in the pages of global fashion magazines, Carolina Herrera soon found a new home on the red carpet, dressing stars both on the rise and Hollywood’s iconic set such as Oscar winner Renee Zellweger, Salma Hayek, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Tina Fey, Taylor Swift and Zhang Ziyi.
With her ready‐to‐wear and bridal collections firmly in place, Carolina Herrera launched her first fragrance, Carolina Herrera Eau de Parfum in 1988. She has since released 13 additional fragrances for both men and women in collaboration with her daughter Carolina Herrera de Baez, the brand’s fragrance Creative Director.
In 2000, the first Carolina Herrera New York boutique location opened its doors on New York’s Madison Avenue and such began the brand’s retail expansion. Today, Carolina Herrera New York counts three flagship boutiques in New York, Los Angeles and Dallas. As a continuation of the runway collection, CH Carolina Herrera was introduced in 2001. This lifestyle sportswear brand is created in the spirit of Carolina Herrera’s design ethos including ready‐to‐wear and accessories for men, women and children with 125 boutique locations worldwide. The House of Herrera’s product portfolio of fragrance, apparel, accessories, and eyewear has over 15,000 points of distribution in 105 countries.
With both a global focus and adoration for the sum of all things beautiful, Carolina Herrera has been hailed as “Fashion’s First Lady”. She was named the CFDA Womenswear “Designer of the Year” in 2004 and honored with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. Acting as a mentor, critic and inspiration to graduating design students throughout her career, Carolina Herrera received the honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2012. In addition, she was awarded the 2012 Fashion Group International Superstar Award. Recently, she was presented with the Nat King Cole Award for her charitable works and contributions to the EIF Women’s Cancer Research Fund. Carolina Herrera has also served as an ambassador for the American Cancer Society and the Intergovernmental Institution in the fight against malnutrition.
The Fall 2015 Carolina Herrera bridal collection is focused on romance, feminity and fantasy. When it comes to expressing elegance and sensuality Carolina Herrera thinks in details; handmade flower appliqués and embellishments on Chantilly lace and nude sheer materials add an element of illusion to her romantic collection.
Louise and Ruairi celebrated their wedding in a peaceful romantic countryside ceremony at the 18th Century Tankardstown House in the heart of Boyne Valley in Co Meath, near Dublin.
Louise looked amazing in her Carolina Herrera gown “I was bamboozled trying to find something that was classy, elegant, timeless and flattering and all the other things that you’re told a wedding dress should be. I think I lost sight of the fact that it should be something I loved and that excited me rather than it being a safe choice. Finally I saw a dress that I could get excited about and set about tracking it down and I’m so glad I found it in Farah Novias Barcelona. I didn’t settle for something based on what other people would think of it, but found something that my sister described as “exactly the sort of thing I thought you’d pick.” So wait until you find something that speaks to you”.
The grounds of Tankardstown House were a stunning backdrop for the ceremony and the couple added beautiful floral garlands to the chairs, adding color and texture in this way is simple and really effective.
We like to wish all of our beautiful brides who got married in 2013 a very happy and prosperous New Year. It was amazing to be involved in making their dream wedding dress. Here are some our gorgeous brides who tied the knot last year.
Carolina Herrera has taken a new approach in her latest bridal collection for the Fall 2014 by keeping it short and sweet. The longest gowns in the collection are elegant and sophisticated tea length gowns made of sheer silk organza trimmed with embroidered border.
This new departure from the normal mermaid skirts and ball gowns has made Herrera’s first collection of short and cocktail dresses very unique and stylish.“Unique options for every event surrounding a bride’s wedding from rehearsal dinner to the reception,” Carolina Herrera explains. The entire collection is based on 10 different silhouettes ranging from jewel embroidered illusion necklines to above the ankle floral applique designs.
The Carolina Herrera Spring 2014 bridal collection is about celeberating love with tradition and modernism at the same time. Herrera’s understanding of beauty and attention to details has made the collection so special that can be admired by different brides from romantic to sophesticated. It is just what we expect from the designer- elegant and feminen. Carolina Herrera’s gowns are for the classic bride who wants to look and feel like a princess on her wedding day.
“Bridal is more classic than trendy, but it has seen a gentle evolution: many brides today have realized that less is more – more sophisticated and more elegant. It is the silhouette and fabric that speak in my designs. That’s the way to make each design timeless.” describes Herrera. Lace appliqués, hand painted tulles and rich embroidered satin and silk organzas are the perfect combinations for the upcoming season.
“It’s not about trends, it’s about making the bride look like a star on her wedding day” says Herrera.
Carolina Herrera ‘s 2013 bridal collection was inspired by the photographs of Cecil Beaton “I had just seen the Cecil Beaton exhibit in London and was so taken with it that I wanted to design a collection based on the beauty he portrayed—the blacks, the whites, the fantasy of it all “Explains Herrera.
With the mixture of tradition and sophistication and impeccable attention to details, her bridal collection is the perfect choice for the fashion forwarding bride who looks for something different. From the classic look to a modern and non-conventional bride the collection has something for everyone; including the slinky Pippa Middleton-inspired cowl-neck dress, an adorable short dress and the iconic bridal trousers suit.
